Fragments of Hope is a community based organization located on the Placencia Peninsula. Our focus is the restoration of coral reef habitats and advocacy for the sustainable management of associated habitats. Coral restoration efforts in Belize are conducted by trained fishers and tour guides and we work closely with regulatory agencies, including the Belize Fisheries Department.

Replenishment work with Acroporid corals at Laughing Bird Caye National Park began in 2006. Today, over 49,000 nursery-grown coral fragments have been successfully out-planted there. The first Elkhorn coral transplants have over 9 years survivorship, nursery-grown corals have over six years survivorship and are considered the longest documented in the Caribbean. Laughing Bird Caye National Park is once again a vibrant tourism destination with thriving corals and abundant marine life. New nursery and out-plant sites include Moho Caye (over 11,000 corals out-planted) and South Silk Caye (over 2,000 corals out-planted).
